NATO phonetic alphabet quiz

Looking at a chart is not the same as recalling Juliett under pressure. This page flips cards: letter → code word, or code word → letter. Misses stay visible so you know what to drill. When you want the full grid again, jump back to the chart.

Practice card

No timer. No points. Just recall.

Say the code word

Y

Review on chart

International spelling alphabet (ICAO / NATO word list) — not a military training certificate, not APCO department codes.

More detail

No scores uploaded. No leaderboard theater.

When to use

Night before a radio exam; weekly refresh so Mike and November do not swap in your head; teaching a coworker with a two-minute round.

When not to

Official proctored testing — use your school or agency exam. Spelling a live phone number for a stranger — use the translator, not a quiz UI.

Assumptions

Random draws from the 26 international code words. Default: case-insensitive answers; prefer exact Juliett. No adaptive tutor.

Worked examples

  • In: Prompt W

    Out: Whiskey

  • In: Prompt Oscar

    Out: O

How it works

Pick direction (letter→word or word→letter). Answer → immediate correct/incorrect. Optionally review misses; link out to the chart for that letter.

Common traps

  • Juliett fails if you type Juliet — that is the point of the drill.
  • Speed is optional; turn patience on when learning.
  • Toy word lists online may differ; we stick to the international set.
